Trash Pandas lose 15th straight game in heartbreaking fashion

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WAFF) – The month of June hasn’t been great for the Rocket City Trash Pandas.

In fact, it’s been historically bad. In the past two weeks, the team hasn’t won a single game.

Their most recent victory was a 4-1 win over Pensacola all the way back on Friday, June 13th. It was agriculture night, according to the team’s website. Maybe the farmers put a curse on the Pandas, because in the 16 days since, the team has zero wins and 15 losses.

Pensacola’s beat ‘em twice. Chattanooga took 7 games straight, including two double-headers thanks to rain outs. The Montgomery Biscuits just finished off a 6 game sweep Sunday night. In all those 15 losses, the Pandas were outscored 94-43.

Sunday night’s loss is especially rough because of the unique way it went down. The Trash Pandas were playing in Montgomery, and were trailing 6-5 going into the 9th inning. They were able to tie the game, but the rain started falling. After several hours, the decision was made to call the game. Because the Trash Pandas and Biscuits don’t play again this season, there is no opportunity to resume and finish the game on another day. And, because the full 9th inning was not completed (the Trash Pandas were batting with one out in the top of the 9th when the rain started), the tying run was wiped off the board and the Biscuits were awarded the 6-5 victory.

In case you’re wondering, the longest losing streak in Trash Pandas history was 8 games, set in 2023. For modern Major League Baseball, the record is 23, set by the Phillies in 1961. Minor League records are more difficult to confirm. However, this is the longest losing streak this year in MiLB, according to the Trash Pandas’ game notes.

The Pandas overall record in 2025 is now 22-49, by far the worst in the Southern League. They’ll try to get back on the winning side of the ledger Tuesday night when they begin a three game home stand against the Knoxville Smokies.
