The Titan Learning Academy, an alternative learning school in the Jacksonville/North Pulaski School District, will participate in a pilot program that will place greater restrictions on student cell phone during the school day.
The pilot plan calls for each student at the small academy to secure their cell phones in district-issued pouches during school hours — all in an effort to reduce disruptions to the instructional day and improve student academic achievement, Deputy Superintendent Janice Walker told the district’s School Board on Monday.
Additionally, the pilot project — to be funded with federal funds distributed by the state — is intended to promote better interaction among students and teachers.
The School Board voted in favor of the pilot program for the remainder of this school year on the recommendation of Superintendent Jeremy Owoh.
