AHMEDABAD: A 21-year-old man from Manipur, currently residing in Ahmedabad, has filed a police complaint alleging that three visa consultants from Vastral cheated him and three others out of Rs 86.20 lakh by promising UK work permits and student visas.
Based on the complaint filed by Man Brahmbhatt, a resident of Shreeji Avenue Flats in Manipur, the Ramol police registered an FIR against Nirav Patel, Mayank Patel, and Vishnu Patel. The trio allegedly took large sums of money from victims and shut down their visa consultancy office without any prior notice.
According to the FIR, Brahmbhatt submitted all his original documents, including his passport, academic mark sheets, letters of recommendation, and other certificates, to the three consultants in November 2024. When he was unable to reach them by phone, he visited their office on March 23, only to find it permanently closed.
Upon enquiring with locals, he learnt that the three accused had allegedly duped several others using similar tactics. Among the victims named in the complaint are Dhruv Barot, who reportedly lost Rs 35 lakh, Yagnesh Patel, who lost Rs 8 lakh, and Jigar Patel, who was cheated out of Rs 13.20 lakh.
The victims were also provided fake Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS) and Certificate of Sponsorship (COS) documents, which were later confirmed to be forged.
The police have booked the three accused under charges of cheating, breach of trust, forgery, and abetment. Officials suspect there could be more victims who are yet to come forward.
