ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) – The Threads of Triumph Charity Fashion show looks to raise awareness and strengthen solidarity in support of survivors of sexual assault.
This all-ages event takes place Thursday, June 26 from 6:30p.m. to 8:30p.m. at The Standard, 214 East State Street, Rockford.
According to Rockford Sexual Assault Counseling Board Member Sana Ahmad, Denim Day is a globally recognized movement that takes place each April to challenge misconceptions about sexual violence and advocate for survivors.
“The event is going to benefit Rockford Sexual Assault Counseling, a local nonprofit here in Rockford and all the proceeds will go back to the nonprofit to help out their survivors,” Ahmad explained.
RSAC provides free legal, medical and counseling services as well as advocacy and preventative education for students in the Rockford area.
The Threads of Triumph Fashion Show upholds this movement by using denim fashion to educate, empower and spark change.
“I hope people can take away that this issue is in our community and we need to stand up with our survivors in solidarity to continue to push the agenda forward and create conversations around awareness and making sure that we stand behind our survivors,” shared Ahmad.
The night begins with cocktail hour, where guests must check in and have the opportunity to enter raffles.
Later in the evening, keynote speakers from the greater Rockford community will share impactful stories, advocacy and insights on supporting survivors of sexual assault.
The final event of the evening is the fashion show, which will take place on the rooftop.
“I’m personally looking forward for all the people in the community to come out and stand together. Lots of people from the community are very behind this mission as they do believe that this affects everyone,” Ahmad said. “I’m really excited to meet new faces and be able to create something we can hopefully do in the future as well.”
Guests are encouraged to dress in cocktail attire but leaders encourage attendees to wear teal as a symbol of support and solidarity. wear teal.
