Victoria’s Secret fashion show in Brooklyn
Victoria’s Secret held its annual fashion show once again in the Brooklyn Navy Yard. On Wednesday, the model Jasmine Tookes opened the show nine months pregnant!
Bill proposes year-round outdoor dining
City Council Member Lincoln Restler has proposed a bill that would bring back year-round outdoor dining, restoring the popular pandemic-era program. The bill would not only eliminate seasonal restrictions, but also open up outdoor dining to a wider range of restaurants and small businesses–even bodegas would qualify for outdoor dining on the street.
Series of pedestrian accidents in Brooklyn
This week, Brooklyn saw a tragic series of car accidents that injured and killed pedestrians. An 11-year-old boy riding his scooter in Gravesend was critically injured by a car, and two teenage girls were hit in a multi-car accident in Bay Ridge. In Coney Island, an elderly driver reversed into a sidewalk and hit three pedestrians, killing a 75-year-old woman.
Middle school applications now open
On Wednesday, October 15, the middle school application opened for public NYC schools. Current 5th Graders (born in 2015) are now eligible to apply for the 2026-27 school year. Learn more here! In our middle school info session with 10+ middle schools for parents with current 5th Graders, Brooklyn Bridge Parents presented an overview of the different middle school options in Brooklyn and beyond. Afterwards public, Charter and private schools shared their programs, academics, admissions and Open House dates.
Brooklyn Mirage music venue will be demolished
The Brooklyn Mirage, an open-air music and nightlife venue in East Williamsburg, has filed for demolition. The announcement comes after a series of troubles for the Mirage. It remained closed throughout the summer after being declared structurally unsafe by the Department of Buildings, and the venue subsequently filed for bankruptcy in August. The cost of demolishing the three-story, 32,000 square foot structure will be $1.5 million.
Two new movie studios slated for Red Hook and Bushwick
A $552 million project will build two new movie studios for big-budget productions in Brooklyn: one at 176 Dikeman Street in Red Hook, and another at 242 Seigel Street in Bushwick. The two all-electric studios will total 600,000 square feet of production facilities, with a total of 10 new sound stages. No dates have been announced yet for the studios’ construction or completion. Learn more here!
