Terror police warned Iranians in UK of threats before arrests

Counterterrorism police visited Iranian dissidents to warn of the threat posed by the regime in Tehran just days before two suspected terrorism plots were foiled, The Times has learnt.

Detectives spoke of the risk of kidnapping and violence, telling dissidents to improve their home security and not to travel to countries near Iran where they could be kidnapped.

It comes as officers from the Met’s counterterrorism command continue to interrogate seven Iranians and one other man arrested at the weekend. Detectives disrupted an alleged terrorism plot, involving five suspects, said to be focused on specific premises. Three men were separately questioned over allegedly working on behalf of a foreign state, understood to be Iran.
