Temperatures could reach 21C this week, bringing out the blossom across Britain as spring gets off to a warm and sunny start.

Thursday could be the hottest day of the year so far. Crosby, Merseyside, hit 19.7C on March 9, but the Met Office is forecasting temperatures of up to 21C in London.

Dry, sunny weather is expected across most of the UK and some parts could be hotter than Barcelona and Athens, where highs of 15C and 12C respectively are forecast. On Friday, however, temperatures start to drop and rain is forecast in the south and west.
