ST. LOUIS, Mo. (First Alert 4) – As Dan Lohmeyer was going through a divorce last year, he remembers feeling a range of emotions from anger to loneliness.
“You process those different stages,” he said. “In the wake of dealing with that, my father, who was my best friend, died suddenly and I found myself in a dark place.”
Searching for companionship and relationships, he surfed through dating apps, but struggled to find a place offering platonic relationships and quality time.
“I thought there has to be something out there, but there really wasn’t, I couldn’t really find anything.”
So, he decided to create an app.
The Perfect Companion app, which launches Friday, helps to bring what Lohmeyer calls “seekers” and “companions” together.
He wanted to make safety a top priority, so his app will offer federal background checks of all users, to insure those seeking connections are as safe as possible.
The app will be subscription based and will also allow seekers to compensate companions for their time, if they so choose. When asked how he plans to prevent the app from feeling transactional, Lohmeyer said users will not only go through background checks, but a rating system will help users avoid those solely seeking payment for their time.
“We want to make sure personalities are right,” he said. “When a companion is chosen and they and the seeker meet up, there’s a way to rate them and we get feedback. If we start getting things we don’t like, we’re going to address that and if it’s just about money, we don’t want them as part of our team.”
The launch party for the app will take place from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Dogwood Social House in Ellisville on Friday night.
