Spring has come on warm breezes wafting over much of the country, lifting temperatures to a high of 23.7C at Otterbourne in Hampshire last Friday. And this balmy weather is no freak event — spring is the fastest warming season across the UK, with the average spring temperature increasing by 1.8C since 1970. Added to that, the six warmest springs have occurred since 2007.
A report by Climate Central, a climate research organisation, found that all four seasons in the UK are warming but at different rates. Autumn is the second fastest warming season at 1.6C since 1970, the average winter temperature has increased by 1.3C, and the average summer temperature has increased by 1.4C.
