Special forces security blunder exposed names and ranks

The identities of serving members of Britain’s secretive special forces have been inadvertently published online for more than a decade by two publications associated with the British Army.

In a significant breach of security protocol, the names and ranks of at least 20 elite soldiers and their links to the special forces were listed in documents publicly available on the internet.

The latest updates by the two publications happened only months ago, meaning some of the soldiers may have been engaged in live operations at the time. In those latest updates, 13 soldiers’ links to the special forces were revealed.

These documents were intended for members of the armed forces but appear to have been published online without safeguards such as password protection.
