Monday is Martin Luther King Jr. Day, which means federal employees and many other workers will have the day off. This year, the holiday honoring the life and legacy of the American civil rights icon also coincides with President-elect Donald Trump’s Inauguration Day.

Martin Luther King Jr. Day is always the third Monday in January. This year, that falls on Monday, Jan. 20.

Is MLK a bank holiday? Will banks be closed on MLK Day?

Yes, Martin Luther King Jr. Day is one of 11 federal holidays recognized in the United States. This means banks will be closed on Monday. The Federal Reserve will also be closed.

Bank ATMs and digital banking features will still be in service.

Is the post office open on MLK Day? Will mail be delivered?

As a federal and state-observed holiday for the U.S. Postal Service, post offices will be closed on Martin Luther King Jr. Day, so you will not receive your regular mail or packages.
