Savannah native launching both kicks and apps, aiming to help athletes with mental health

STATESBORO, Ga. (WTOC) – Georgia Southern kicker Gavin Stewart wants to play professionally if given the opportunity, but is setting himself up for life after football. Just last week, Stewart launched a new app designed to help athletes who struggle mentally.

Stewart’s app is titled ‘Inner Edge’, which he describes as a mental performance app designed by athletes, for athletes to help sharpen focus, build resilience, and compete with confidence.

“I taught myself app development,” Stewart said when talking about Inner Edge to WTOC. “I’ve always wanted to start something, and throughout five years of college football, especially being a kicker, just learning how important sports psychology is. Mental health, mental wellness, strength especially. I wanted to build a platform where that’s all one resource so hopefully other athletes have access to it.

In a half-decade of college football, Stewart has battled with mental struggles first hand. He now hopes he can help other athletes both on and off the field.

“Throughout five years, I’ve had (mental health challenges). Can’t make every kick, so when that time comes, just bounce back, and being bale to swing again every time you go out.”

Inner Edge can be found on the app store, and includes daily activities and meditations, various lesson plans, and conversations with former NFL athletes. Stewart says he looks forward to building up the app as time goes on.
