Initially launched as “Groovy Vintage“, starting in high school, the brand started with reselling vintage items, eventually expanding into lingerie.

“Ferrazo is just a play on my own name. I wanted to make it a bit more personal,” says Ferrera.

Ferrera describes the brand’s development as a “continuing evolution: “Honestly, that may continue and change again, knowing myself.”

Ferrera, who began curating and sourcing from various thrift stores, was quickly captivated by the process, which became more than just a business: “Curating my brand became very personal to me. I learned so much about myself in the process. It was something I started to look forward to every day. It was (and is) that one thing that was 100% me and only mine.”

After graduating and relocating to Denver, the brand found new life within a vibrant and welcoming community, with local pop-up markets fueling Ferrera’s passion.

Despite its success, Ferrazo remains committed to the ethos of slow fashion, carefully selecting and photographing each item with deliberate intention. “Ferrazo is what it is because of my own energy and passion for funky fashion,”  Ferrera shares.

Known for her poetic approach to design, which draws from Ferrera’s background in poetry, Ferrera says, “Poetry is inherently romantic, so am I. Perhaps why I lean so much into lingerie.”

Ferrazo embodies a celebration of feminine energy, love and divinely-inspired fashion, making it a perfect fit for the upcoming Denver Fashion Week: “Ferrazo is about feeling divinely feminine, it’s about love. <3”

Ferrera’s commitment to vintage fashion is rooted in a strong stance against the fast fashion industry.

“I just never really liked this whole fast fashion movement that’s taking over the world,” she explains, citing the environmental impact as a key motivator. “We’re aiding the decline of our planet because of it, and I just do not stand for that.”

For Ferrera, older clothes are a treasure trove of quality and artistic value. “Clothes that were made before the ‘takeover’ are good quality, organically artistic and just downright better. The older they are, the cooler they are,” Ferrera notes.

By focusing on upcycling, Ferrera feels she is playing a small but important role in keeping fashion from contributing to landfill waste. This philosophy infuses her collections, giving it a retro and timeless energy that appeals to “old souls” who appreciate vintage style. Through this work, Ferrazo not only celebrates sustainability but also brings a sense of nostalgia and individuality to modern fashion.

Balancing the authenticity of vintage pieces with the needs of today’s audience is a delicate process for Ferrera. “I wanna start this by saying there are some vintage pieces that are to be left alone exactly the way they are!” she explains, noting that certain items in their collection remain untouched in their original form.

For others, however, Ferrera embraces the opportunity to modernize. “I embellish them with items I upcycle specifically to match with that main piece,” she shares, describing how she builds entire looks around pieces she adores.

While some vintage items are honored for their timeless beauty, others may need a bit of love and transformation. “Vintage can be bland sometimes too! Or at least, they have the potential to be more.”

Maximalism plays a significant role in this process, as Ferrera sees it as a natural blend of vintage and modern sensibilities. “Maximalism is genuinely so spot-on for my creative drive,” Ferrera said, emphasizing how combining these elements results in a truly authentic and dynamic design approach.

Working with vintage materials presents its own set of challenges, particularly when it comes to the intricate details of each piece: “Vintage items tend to have a lot of decor on them like sequins, embroideries, beads, etc., that are often missing just due to the amount of time they’ve been around,” Ferrera said. To overcome this, she creatively incorporates these missing elements into the redesign, often adding their own touches to complete the look.

“I hand-sew the majority of my designs because of the materials I work with, beads, buttons, chains, jewelry and other little things can be so tedious to apply. I love it!” Ferrea said.

While she loves the meticulous nature of this work, it’s not without its difficulties. “It can be difficult, especially to hide all the stray thread knots,” Ferrera admits, acknowledging the fine balance between craftsmanship and the delicate art of restoring and enhancing vintage treasures.

Ferrera draws immense inspiration from the queer community, citing it as a constant source of influence. “I’m inspired by the queer community. Always have been, always will be,” she shares, emphasizing her deep connection to this vibrant and diverse group.

Ferrera is also fueled by counterculture, the bold desire to stand out and be unapologetically different. “Everything I do is for the girls, the gays, and the they’s,” she says, explaining how her work celebrates individuality and inclusivity.

Ferrera’s creativity is also sparked by the energy of pop music, particularly in recent years. In particular, Ferrera revealed that music plays a big role in shaping the mood and atmosphere of her designs: “Definitely will have pop music playing as my models walk for this show!”

This blend of community, counterculture and music continues to drive their work, making Ferrazo a celebration of self-expression and bold creativity.

Ferrera’s creative process is an organic and hands-on journey that begins with rummaging through her inventory. “It starts with rummaging around in my inventory,” Ferrera explains, noting that the ideas come together as the materials reveal themselves.

The process is spontaneous, as Ferrera moves back and forth between items, pulling them out and seeing how they look together. “I’ve saved tons of items over the years, hoping one day I’d upcycle them into something else,” Ferrera explains, revealing that her collection of scrap clothes and jewelry has taken years to build.

Surrounded by bins full of materials, she focuses on exploring exciting color combinations and crafting unique textures, offering a glimpse into her creative process as she assembles various elements into one-of-a-kind designs.

What sets Ferrazo apart in the current landscape of popular vintage fashion is its versatility and eclectic mix of offerings. “Luckily, my brand is not just vintage!” Ferrera explains, pointing out that lingerie is actually her best seller.

Ferrazo isn’t confined to a single category or style; it’s a dynamic blend of different elements.

“Ferrazo isn’t just one thing, with one goal. It’s a world of many things!” From vintage pieces and lingerie to modern designs, accessories and upcycled creations, the brand provides a unique and diverse shopping experience that goes beyond the typical vintage fashion narrative. This wide range of products ensures that Ferrazo stands out, appealing to a variety of tastes and preferences.

Ferrera hopes that when people wear one of her creations, they feel nothing short of empowered. “Would it be crazy to say I hope that when people wear one of my designs/outfits, I want them to feel the divine power of existence itself?” Ferrera states, reflecting on the deep emotional connection she wants her designs to evoke.

For Ferrera, fashion is all about capturing that transcendent feeling, when the right piece makes you feel like your most beautiful self. “When I put something on that is absolutely perfect and feels so right to me and I look the most beautiful I can feel — that is the point.”

Ferrera wants each wearer to experience the magic of self-love and confidence. “It’s like dancing on the tippy top of a mountain looking out at the whole world. Like the whole universe is urging me on. Like I can do anything. Like I’m powerful.” Through her designs, Ferrazo aims to inspire that same sense of boundless power and beauty in every person who wears it.

Looking ahead, Ferrera envisions Ferrazo growing into a full-time career. “Hopefully it becomes my full-time job,” Ferrera says, expressing a desire to be happily sustained while doing what she loves

Ferrera never imagined she would be where she is today, designing for Denver Fashion Week. “Life has a silly way of just working out so long as the effort is made,” Ferrera says, crediting her hard work and the opportunities that have propelled her forward.

Embracing the unpredictable nature of her journey, Ferrera finds joy in the constant evolution of Ferrazo. “I kind of love the not knowing, the always-changing,” Ferrera shares, trusting that her dedication will lead her to where she’s meant to be.

Whether under the same name or a new one, one thing is certain: Ferrazo will continue to grow and evolve, with Ferrera at the helm, navigating wherever the journey takes them.
