SARC holds annual fashion show to raise sexual violence awareness

BRYAN, Texas (KBTX)—The Sexual Assault Resource Center of the Brazos Valley, SARC, raised awareness Saturday night through fashion.

It was their annual SARC Fashion Show, which aimed to honor and empower survivors while breaking stigmas.

Survivors and advocates alike walked the runway in clothes typically worked by people who were sexually assaulted.

SARC’s board president, Lori Charles said the fashion show helps to remind people that no matter what someone is wearing, it should never be seen as a cause for a sexual assault.

“We have people that are wearing pajamas, in the past we had nurses wearing scrubs when they were assaulted or just somebody who was out for a job or whatever that is so it’s just to debunk those myths,” Charles said.

Charles added that she loves seeing the community come together in these conversations about sexual violence and being there to support survivors.
