The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7 foldable phone has been tipped for a considerable upgrade in one vital area – but it might not be enough.
According to fresh claims from Dutch website GalaxyClub, Samsung’s next compact foldable phone will upgrade the size of its battery from 4000mAh to 4300mAh.
That’s a 7.5% increase if true, and comes off the back of the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6 increasing its battery size from just 3700mAh in the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5.
That’s a clear sing of progress. So why are we saying that this might not be enough?
Flip 7 foes are going even bigger
Make no mistake, the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7 needs a larger battery.
In our 3.5-star review of the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6, one of our main criticisms was that the battery life was “underwhelming”, to the extent that our reviewer was “often worried about making it through a full day”.
Given those concerns, we’re just not sure a 7.5% capacity increase is going to cut it. Not when one of the Galaxy Z Flip 7’s key rivals, the Xiaomi Mix Flip 2, is rumoured to be getting a massive 5100mAh cell.

How has Xiaomi stolen a march on Samsung?
Xiaomi appears to have incorporated silicon-carbon (Si-C) battery technology to increase the battery capacity of its flip phone without an accompanying increase in handset size. Samsung seems to be trailing with its adoption of this technology.
Presumably the Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge will see the company introducing Si-C to its product lines, but foldable fans might need to wait until the second half of 2026 for competitive stamina from Samsung.
Of course, that small bump to the battery size could combine with the more efficient Snapdragon 8 Elite chip that will presumably power the Galaxy Z Flip 7 for a meaningful improvement, so we’re not ready to give up hope altogether. Watch this space.
