TEXAS — On Wednesday, President Trump issued an executive order halting migrant entry across the southern border.
In the order, Trump cites the Immigration and Nationality Act and Article II of the Constitution, to justify stopping illegal aliens from crossing the U.S. southern border.
President Trump further limited the use of immigration laws that could allow illegal aliens entering the U.S. across the southern border to stay, including asylum.
The removal of immigrants from the border will begin immediately, following President Trump’s instructions to the Department of Homeland Security, the Department of Justice, and the Department of State.
On Monday, Trump deactivated the CBP One app, a tool that enabled migrants to seek asylum in the U.S. without illegal entry.
In addition, he ordered construction of the border wall to resume and reinstated the “Remain in Mexico” policy, which keeps asylum seekers in Mexico until their court hearings.
“Illegal immigration affects the lives of all Americans. Illegal immigration hurts American workers; burdens American taxpayers; and undermines public safety; and places enormous strain on local schools, hospitals, and communities in general, taking precious resources away from the poorest Americans who need them most,” Trump outlined in 2018 and added to the executive order issued on Wednesday. “Illegal immigration costs our country billions and billions of dollars each year…And I will therefore take every lawful action at my disposal to address this crisis. And that’s what we’re doing.”
