O’Maine Studios hosted the event featuring New England’s up-and-coming fashion designers.
PORTLAND, Maine — It felt like New York Fashion Week in Portland Thursday night, as local talent strutted their stuff on the runway, modeling pieces by local designers in front of an enthusiastic crowd.
The second annual Maker’s Way runway show was hosted at O’Maine Studios on Danforth Street. Their fashion extravaganza featured local designers, some of whom are new Americans making their way in the local fashion scene.
“Maker’s Way is a curated discovery of incredible local makers and their products in the places they create. Hidden in your hometown are the people that are quietly doing what they do best: making world-class, thoughtfully-designed products,” the company’s website states.
NEWS CENTER Maine’s photojournalist Adam Paul gave us a front-row seat to the evening of creativity. He spoke with guests, designers, and event organizers.
Those in attendance described the evening as “exciting” and electric.”
Some designers incorporated upcycled materials in their pieces, emphasizing environmental consciousness. One designer said her pieces were about telling a story and expressing each person’s individuality.
Event organizers hoped the event would encourage Mainers to shop locally and support new artists.
