OnePlus is said to be working on a gaming smartphone, though there’s reason to sound a note of caution.
According to a new X post from tech tipster Yogesh Brar, OnePlus is working on a new sub-series of phones “aimed at gamers”.
Apparently, this new OnePlus gaming phone will feature a bigger battery, a flagship processor, and dedicated gaming triggers.
The latter point has become a standard feature for the few dedicated gaming phones on the market. Both the Asus ROG Phone 9 Pro (pictured below) and the Redmagic 10S Pro feature them.

Perhaps don’t go celebrating the arrival of a third gaming phone manufacturer just yet.
Brar’s X post also mentions that this new OnePlus gaming phone is at the “experimental” stage, and describes the prospect of a global release as “dicey”.
In other words, OnePlus hasn’t yet committed to a release, and even then it’s only eyeing up a release into the local China market.
While we’re applying a pinch of salt to this rumour, it isn’t the first that we’ve heard of a potential OnePlus gaming phone.

Last month established tipster Smart Pikachu took to Weibo to claim that a new OnePlus Ace-branded phone was in the works for the end of the year with a huge battery (apparently approaching 8000mAh) and dedicated shoulder buttons.
While it’s a fairly niche sub-category of the smartphone market, we’d definitely suggest that there’s space for some fresh thinking within the gaming phone space.
As mentioned, there are only two manufacturers actively making gaming phones right now, while other manufacturers (Xiaomi’s Poco sub-brand springs to mind) make nods towards the gaming community with some of their feature decisions.
Asus makes a remarkably balanced and all-round capable gaming phone in the ROG Phone 9 Pro, while the Redmagic 10 Air is agreeably slim, light, and cheap. The question is, what can OnePlus bring to the table?
