After passing his Wolfsburg medical yesterday, rising German fullback/winger Aaron Zehnter has been officially unveiled by his new Bundesliga club. The 20-year-old – who also thrived as a left-slanted midfielder for 2. Bundesliga side SC Paderborn 07 last season – will receive his first chance to shine in Germany’s top flight.
Kicker and other German sources report that Paderborn have pocketed a base-transfer-fee of around €4.5m. Zehnter just completed a highly successful season in the German second division in which he scored three goals and contributed 12 assists for his now former Westphalian outfit.
Whether or not Zehnter becomes a regular under new VfL head coach Paul Simonis remains to be seen. Much depends on whether Simonis opts to switch Danish left-back/winger over to the right. Maehle has proven himself on both sides. Zehnter can probably count on an audition at least.
“Aaron is very versatile on the left side and impressively demonstrated enormous potential last season,” VfL sporting director Sebastian Schindzielorz noted in a club statement. “We are convinced that he can take the next step in his development with us and that his qualities will be a real boost for our game.“
“I am delighted to be joining VfL Wolfsburg,” the player himself added, “It is an honor for me to play for such a club in the Bundesliga. I am looking forward to this challenge with great anticipation and will give my best for the club.“
