Ofcom investigates suicide forum linked to at least 50 deaths in UK

An online forum that encourages people to kill themselves is under investigation by Ofcom as the regulator uses new powers for the first time.

The website, which cannot be named, is believed to be linked to at least 50 deaths in the UK and was used to promote the services of a poison seller who was exposed by The Times.

Children are among its tens of thousands of members, who discuss methods of suicide and share instructions on how to buy and use a potentially deadly substance.

Ofcom gained new powers last month under the Online Safety Act, allowing it to take action against sites hosting illegal material.
