New police app for citizens from the Tuscaloosa Police Department

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (WBRC) – A new crime-fighting tool for the Tuscaloosa Police Department. Hundreds have already signed up for the new phone app that will better help investigators solve crimes.

What makes this one stand out is the fact Tuscaloosa Police believe it really gives new meaning to the word anonymity. Officials say it’s working well already.

Veteran lawman Sebo Sanders is convinced the new TPD phone app could truly change how investigators solve crimes; it’s more direct, more efficient, and more private than ever before.

“It’s operational now. This a game-changer, a game-changer for law enforcement, a game-changer for the community, and a game-changer as far as safety within your community,” said Deputy Chief of Police Sebo Sanders.

You can find the app by going to the Tuscaloosa Police Department’s Facebook page and follow the instructions.

“A lot of times people don’t want to call the police department and they feel like if somebody calls, somebody will get their information. With this app, they will not. It’s a secure app. They can leave a tip. It helps the community altogether,” said Sanders.

Sanders says what the police department is doing is a reflection of the times. He estimates more than 90% of the American population has a cell phone and this is one more way to prevent a trip to headquarters, report a crucial tip, or simply learn more about what’s going on in Tuscaloosa.

“We even got an app for all city schools. If you need to give a tip on bullying, you send that tip and it goes directly to four people connected with the schools,” said Sanders.

A new and much-improved way to connect with Tuscaloosa police, all at your fingertips, and it’s proving to be popular already. Tuscaloosa Police say the number of downloads have jumped from 800 to 9,300 in a matter of days.
