NABA Penn State chapter hosts 17th annual fashion show | Lifestyle

The Bryce Jordan Center transformed into a runway of glitz, glamor and culture as the 17th annual National Association of Black Accountants (NABA) Fashion Show took to the stage on Thursday evening. Doors opened at 6:30 p.m., with the event starting at 7 p.m.

Hosted by the Penn State chapter of the NABA, the highly anticipated event was free to attend and open to all students.

Organizers encouraged students to come dressed in their best outfits, ready to have a good time as they took the crowd to London, Tokyo and New York.

There were also chances to compete in contests like the ‘So you think you can dress competition,’ which helped keep the crowd engaged.

This year’s show has a packed lineup of entertainment, a live set from recording artist Shy Glizzy, a rapper from Washington D.C. with over a million followers on Instagram, and a RIAA Platinum record as a featured artist on the song “Crew” by GoldLink, with Brent Faiyaz.

Additional special performances by Penn State’s own dance teams AMBITIONS Performance Co, the Luxurious Lionesses, BLK Elites and Dark Storm Step Team.

Adedeji Bamidele said the performances were the highlight of the night.

“I look forward to these shows every pre-Blue and White Weekend — they always put on a good show,” Bamidele, a third-year studying cyber security, said.

Whether students were there for the fashion, music or just the atmosphere, this event delivered unforgettable performances.

The night also featured appearances from actor, DJ and recording artist Marty Dunstan, and was hosted by Mitchell Brown, a familiar face in the campus media scene.

Jessica Friedland was walking in her first show, and said she was a little nervous.

“I’m just happy to be here,” Friedland, a third-year studying, criminology, said. “After all the practice and seeing this show be put together I’m very proud of what we were able to create and to be a part of the process.”

The music featured some hit songs by Gunna, Yeat and Lancey Foux.

Bernard Attipoe, a campus photographer known as @ernardvisuals on Instagram, was there to capture moments from the event.

“NABA shows get better every year, and the atmosphere is so live in here — it’s all good vibes,” Attipoe, a third-year studying security risk analysis, said.
