Hyderabad: The distributor of a prominent mobile phone brand sought help from Hyderabad police after more than 500 mobile phones from their authorised outlet in Hyderabad went missing.
In the complaint, the company’s authorities said that the missing mobile phones were worth 2 crore. The issue came to light during an internal enquiry, and they suspect that the branch head was behind the alleged pilferage.
The company, which has pan-India distribution outlets for a prominent mobile phone brand, is running its outlet in Himayathnagar since 2024. Apart from sales, repair and other services are extended from this centre.
The company’s head office received a complaint from an insider in their Hyderabad office, who alleged that their service centre head was illegally selling the new phones and making money. To verify the allegation, an internal team from the company came to Hyderabad and found the suspect inside the office.
When confronted about the illegal sale, the suspect, citing personal reasons, tried to get out of the office. A subsequent internal audit showed that although the inventory record indicated that 500 phones were available, they were physically missing.
When they tried to reach the suspect, he claimed ignorance about the missing phones.
The director of the company came from Delhi and approached the central crime station, which registered a criminal case on Wednesday and sought police assistance to determine how the phones went missing and to recover them.
The accused is booked under Section 316(4) (criminal breach of trust) and 318(4) (cheating) of BNS. Police are in the process of calling the suspect for questioning.
