Microsoft is set to make the lives of Xbox gamers a bit easier. The gaming unit of the tech giant has announced that it is planning to merge its Xbox Game Pass and Xbox mobile apps into a single, convenient application in the near future.
The company said that this week, it is testing a new version of the Xbox app for iOS and Android that integrates key features from the Xbox Game Pass app.
“These updates will be available for Xbox beta members on mobile and will be coming to everyone soon. As part of these changes, we will no longer support new downloads of the Xbox Game Pass app, starting in November,” Xbox said.
How a single Xbox app will benefit gamers
With this merger, gamers will be able to browse and access the entire Game Pass library and manage their memberships directly within the Xbox app. Additionally, Game Pass Ultimate subscribers will have the added convenience of claiming perks within this streamlined app.
Currently, gamers have access to features like social chats, game captures, Play/install games on console and receive notifications about game updates and rewards. The merger will allow gamers to view Game Pass membership, browse the gaming catalogue and even view and claim perks.
“Game Pass Ultimate members can also stream select games through Xbox Cloud Gaming on their iOS or Android devices using a supported browser at xbox.com/play,” Xbox added.
The new unified Xbox app, which comes as a part of September’s update, will continue to offer all the features, including staying connected with friends and receiving game updates, socialising and tracking achievements as well as game stats.
