Met Office warning as 40C heatwaves possible in parts of UK

Temperatures could rise into the low 30s towards the end of the week, with the Met Office confirming temperatures are set to increase.

Jim Dale, meteorologist for British Weather Services, said: “It is once again looking very hot for the end of the month, and this is when we could see the 40C, so all eyes are on the second half of July.

“High pressure is back in charge from this week and if we get something out of the Continent temperatures will push even higher, so this needs to be watched.

“In the meantime, although there may be the odd cooler hiccup through the coming fortnight, this hot spell could hold out for the next 10 days to two weeks.”

The BBC Weather forecast for July 10 says: “Tomorrow, much of the UK will be sunny and dry. Becoming hot in the south. The far north and north-west will remain cloudy however, with a few patches of rain.”

The outlook for Friday to Sunday adds: “Friday is expected to be largely dry and sunny. The south will be very warm or hot whilst the north will be cooler with a few lingering areas of patchy cloud and the odd shower.
