Meghan Markle defended as she's trolled over look for Most Powerful Women summit

Meghan Markle turned heads in Washington, D.C. as she brought her signature minimalist and chic style to Fortune’s Most Powerful Women Summit.

Attending as a speaker to discuss her creative ventures and thoughts on leadership, the Duchess of Sussex found herself at the centre of an unexpected fashion debate.

For the occasion, Meghan, 44, opted for a refined, white outfit. She paired a structured white button-down blouse by Gabriela Hearst with a tailored Brochu Walker pencil skirt, which featured a centre slit.

Nude pointed-toe heels with double ankle straps and Polène earrings completed the look. Her glossy dark hair was worn sleek and tucked behind her ears, and she chose soft, neutral makeup with a gentle smoky eye and glossy nude lip.

The ensemble was professional, elegant, and consistent with the style Meghan has long gravitated toward.

Despite the simplicity of the look, some social media users began speculating that Meghan was “copying” other celebrities, especially Victoria Beckham.

Fashion designer Victoria recently wore a similar look for the London premiere of her Netflix docuseries.

One post on X (formerly Twitter) questioned: “Why is Meghan deciding to wear tailored clothing all of a sudden?”

Meanwhile, another accused her of mimicking Victoria, posting side-by-side photos of Meghan’s outfit and Victoria’s recent look.

“Meghan Markle is super fast in copying Victoria Beckham,” the post claimed, comparing two white blouses paired with pencil skirts.

“She is now copying Victoria Beckham,” another user agreed.

Fans react to Meghan’s look after Victoria Beckham comparisons

However, in response, supporters of Meghan quickly stepped in to challenge the narrative.

One user mocked the comparison, saying: “These outfits are completely different. Seems like trolls can’t afford an optician cost.”

Another fan expressed frustration over the scrutiny Meghan consistently faces for her wardrobe choices.

They wrote: “I suppose Meghan will have to go naked now every time she goes out or to an event because it seems that everything she wears is linked to other celebrity in an absurd reach from trolls and haters.”

Others reminded critics that Meghan wore structured, monochromatic pieces regularly during her seven years on Suits. The duchess also recently donned an all-white ensemble at Paris Fashion Week.

Beyond the buzz surrounding her wardrobe, Meghan spoke candidly on stage with Fortune’s editor-in-chief Alyson Shontell about her evolving career.

She offered updates on her Netflix series, With Love, Meghan, and confirmed that a holiday special would air in November, which she teased as “a really good one”.

She also discussed her relationship with social media, calling it “complicated”.
