Marietta City Schools cell phone ban could expand to include high schoolers

MARIETTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) – Parents of students attending Marietta City Schools will see firsthand how the district plans to expand its ban on cell phones at Tuesday’s school board meeting.

The district already has a ban on cell phones at two of its schools. Students must put their cell phones and smartwatches inside a magnetic locking pouch, called a Yondr Pouch, at the start of the school day. The students can keep their phones with them, but they are not accessible in the pouch during school hours.

Now, the district wants to expand the policy to high school students.

The school board will have its first presentation of the policy Tuesday at 6 p.m. during its regular meeting.
