Man get 7-year jail for snatching mobile phones, injuring tailor

Additional Sessions Judge, Chandigarh, Sonika has sentenced Honey, a resident of Sector 56, to undergo seven years of rigorous imprisonment in a robbery case registered four years ago.

The court also imposed a fine of Rs 20,000 on the convict.

The police had registered a case on a complaint of one Mohd Ayub (73), a resident of Sector 56, on September 10, 2020, under Sections 397, 458, 411 of the IPC.

The complainant, a tailor by profession, told the police that on September 10, 2020, while he was asleep at home his son left for a mosque but left the door open. After some time, he heard a sound. He got up and saw a person sneaking into his house.

The intruder tried to flee with mobile phones lying on a table in the room. Ayub tried to catch hold of him and a scuffle ensued. He hit Ayub with scissors on the neck and fled along with three phones.

The accused was arrested during the investigation. The police filed charge sheet against the accused. Finding a prima facie case charges were framed against the accused to which he pleaded not guilty and claimed trial.

The public prosecutor said the prosecution had proved the case beyond a shadow of doubt.

Counsel of the accused said the accused was falsely implicated in the case. After hearing arguments of the parties, the court held the accused guilty of the charges framed against him.
