LYNCHBURG, Va. (WDBJ) – Lynchburg City Schools has updated its policy on cell phones and other personal electronic communications devices. The change was approved by the school board.
A school district statement reads:
Beginning January 6, when students return from winter break, the use of personal electronic devices will be prohibited during the bell-to-bell school day for all K-12 students. “Bell-To-Bell” means from arrival at the start of the school day until the dismissal bell rings at the end of the school academic day. This includes lunch and time between classes.
Additionally, elementary students may not use personal devices while on school buses unless approved by the bus driver.
“This policy update reflects our commitment to creating a consistent and distraction-free learning environment across all grade levels,” said Dr. Ben Copeland, LCS Interim Superintendent. “By reducing interruptions caused by personal devices, we can better support students’ academic and social development.”
LCS encourages families to review the updated policy and discuss the importance of minimizing distractions to maximize learning. The full policy can be found here.
