ST. MARTIN, Miss. (WLOX) – Fashion hit the St. Martin High School Gym Saturday night.
Fashion designer Rose Payton held her fifth show with this year’s theme being “Out Da Box”. Payton says her designs focus on thinking outside the box and not being caged in by fashion norms.
This year’s fashion show is special as it’s a way to honor her mother who passed earlier this year.
“Every year I start in June. I always have my show in November but being that I lost my mom right before June, I didn’t think I was going to do it,” Payton said. “But, my sisters and them help push me and say ‘go ahead, Mom would want you to keep on’.”
One of those sisters is Lori Bolden who is also the announcers for the fourth consecutive year.
“That [fashion design] is her gift that God has given her to be able to make these beautiful outfits and so many people from all over the U.S. and there are some celebrities who actually wear some of her outfits,” Bolden said. “We can’t let people down, we have to stay in the fight.”
Payton says she’ll be taking off next year but will continue the show in 2027.
