One of the biggest appointment rumors of the year is finally starting to prove true: Jonathan Anderson is the new Creative Director of Dior menswear. Still no official word on whether or not Anderson will take over for Dior womenswear, but nevertheless, this at least half puts to rest months of speculation. The announcement was made this morning, after Kim Jones stepped down from the role earlier this year and weeks after Anderson left his position at the helm of Loewe after 11 years. The designer’s first men’s collection for Dior will be shown on June 27th.
Jones revolutionized Dior menswear with his art and streetwear-focused approach to the collections. With Anderson taking the reins, there’s no doubt that Jones’ legacy of reinvention at the house will continue. Anderson built an incredibly successful men’s business under his own label and during his stewardship of Loewe, with craft always at the center. Dior will be a new global platform on which the designer can flex his talents as an innovator, and while this move in the designer musical chair game is certainly thrilling, there will also likely be more news to watch from Dior in the coming months. Cheers to Anderson–and to whatever comes next.
