One of golf’s most prestigious tournaments returns as the 89th edition of the Masters gets underway on Thursday, April 10, at Augusta National Golf Club in Augusta, Georgia.

Defending champion Scottie Scheffler will aim to retain his title after a stellar win last year, where he overcame the likes of Ludvig Åberg and Tommy Fleetwood. A win this year would make him the first golfer since Tiger Woods in 2001 and 2002 to claim back-to-back Masters titles.

When is the 2025 Masters?

The first tee-off of this year’s Masters is set for 7:40 a.m. local time (ET) on Thursday, April 10, with Davis Riley and Patton Kizzire set to get the tournament underway.

The field of players will all have begun their tournament by the end of the opening day, with that field narrowing until the final round on Sunday, April 13.

Which players are competing at the Masters?

The Masters is an exclusive invitational event, featuring only the top-ranked players from the PGA Tour, European Tour, and Japan Golf Tour. Invitations are also extended to all past Masters champions, granting them lifetime eligibility, even if they don’t participate.

Scheffler will have to overcome a lot of competition if he wants to win his third Masters title. The playing field will include other top contenders such as World No. 2 Rory Mcllroy, Ludvig Adberg, Xander Schauffele, and Collin Morikawa. 

Five Australian golfers are set to compete in the tournament, including Cameron Smith, Min Woo Lee, Jason Day, Cameron Davis, and 2013 Masters champion Adam Scott.

Apart from Mcllroy, the likes of Danny Willett, Matt Fitzpatrick, Tommy Fleetwood, Tyrrell Hatton, Justin Rose, Robert MacIntyre, Aaron Rai, and Shane Lowry will represent the United Kingdom at the 2025 Masters.

Past winners of the Masters

As is the case for many a long-running professional golf tournament, Jack Nicklaus is the man to have won more times at the Masters than any other, donning the green jacket six times between 1963 and 1986, including back-to-back in 1965 and 1966.

Next-highest on the list, and the stand-out at Augusta in the modern era, is Tiger Woods, who collected his fifth title as recently as 2019. Scheffler is the latest player to win more than once, doing so in 2022 and 2024.
