LIBERTY, Mo. – The No. 7 UIndy women’s lacrosse team capped a perfect weekend in the state of Missouri with a dominating 23-5 victory over GLVC foe William Jewell. The Greyhounds earned their seventh running-clock win of the spring, scoring their 13th of the contest early in the second half.
Four Hounds recorded hat tricks, led by Sage Da Silva’s game-high five goals. Olivia Bladon shared the lead with Da Silva in the point column (6), while also securing eight draw controls and five ground balls.
The Greyhounds now lead the all-time series, 2-0, with back-to-back wins in Jewell’s first two seasons of existence.
INS & OUTS
UIndy has now scored 15 or more goals in five straight games since the start of GLVC play, upping the modest streak with a goal from Ella Fornek midway through the third quarter. The Hounds scored five or more goals in all four quarters against the Cardinals – including six each in the final three frames – with nine players finding the back of the cage against Jewell keeper Claire Eastwood. Da Silva netted a goal in each period, with a hat trick secured by halftime.
After a couple first-quarter miscues on the clear, the Greyhounds rattled off 15 straight successful attempts over the final 48 minutes. The UIndy defense was as solid as ever, forcing 18 Jewell turnovers and limiting its host to 18 turnovers. Four Hounds, including defenders Amanda Hurry and Mariah Whitfield, caused two turnovers apiece. Whitfield also scooped three ground balls in the win.
Caroline Krauch matched her career-high in the scoring column with four goals, while Elle Cimini recorded her second hat trick in the past four games. Fornek joined Malaena Michielin with two goals each, ending the scoring with 34 seconds left in the contest. The freshmen trio of Kendall Conrad, Maggie Durkin, and Lucy Sander all scored against the Cardinals, with Durkin’s netter coming on the free position.
Ten of Jewell’s 15 shots made their way on goal, half of which were saved by UIndy netminders Ava Graham and Lylian Iman. The duo split duties in cage, logging 30 minutes apiece.
INSIDE THE BOX
– The Greyhounds were credited with 12 of the Cardinals’ 18 turnovers. Sophomore Hollis Rang tallied her lone CTO on a Jewell clear attempt in the second quarter.
– UIndy attempted 11 free-position shot, tied for the most this spring with two other league games over the past two weeks. The Hounds connected on seven of those chances, with Cimini and Krauch sharing the lead with two.
– Ally Savino dished out two assists for the second straight game.
– Bladon’s first-quarter goal was her 50th of the season and the junior now has 160 career scores in her three seasons at UIndy.
UP NEXT
UIndy returns home to close out the regular season next Friday against Quincy. It marks the team’s “Back the Pack” game, with the first 60 students in attendance receiving a free t-shirt.
