Hong Kong Airlines is reinstating its direct route to Australia’s Gold Coast, marking the return of the Hong Kong-based full-service carrier to long-haul services. The seasonal service, running from January 17-February 15, 2025, will operate four weekly flights on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays from Hong Kong, with return flights from the Gold Coast the following day. The flights will be operated using an A330 wide-body aircraft with 32 business and 260 economy-class seats. This new route is part of Hong Kong Airlines’ phased network expansion, which includes other new routes in Australia.

The first flight took off on January 17, 2025, from Hong Kong International Airport at 10:22 pm local time. The 8-hour 17-minute flight arrived at Gold Coast Airport at 8:39 am local time the next day. The return flight departed from the Gold Coast at 11:38 am local time the following day, reaching Hong Kong at 6:35 pm local time. The seasonal flight is expected to attract nearly 6,000 travellers to the Gold Coast.
In addition, Hong Kong Airlines is resuming its flights to Vancouver in January and planning to expand services to Toronto, Los Angeles, and Seattle. The inaugural flight was celebrated with a lively ceremony at the boarding gate, attended by Jeff Sun, the President of Hong Kong Airlines, representatives from Gold Coast and Queensland airports, and senior officials from the Hong Kong Airport Authority.
As part of the celebrations, passengers were handed exclusive gifts to commemorate the occasion. Upon landing at Gold Coast Airport, passengers were welcomed by a traditional lion dance performance.
