Residents of Hong Kong, Macau, and Taiwan will soon have the option to apply for temporary travel permits to Mainland China online. This new measure, announced on March 20, 2025, is exclusively for non-Chinese residents. The online application process will also streamline the verification of travel permits by linking them to residence permits. These travel permits facilitate short-term visits for purposes such as investment, tourism, family visits, and seminars. Additionally, residents who have lost, damaged, or forgotten their permits will be able to generate a temporary electronic permit for their travel needs.

Non-Chinese residents of Hong Kong, Macau, and Taiwan must apply for a Mainland China travel permit in person. Applications must be submitted to China Travel Service Hong Kong Limited or China Travel Service (Macau), which the Exit and Entry Administration of China authorises. Previously, individuals whose permits were damaged, lost, or misplaced had to undergo a physical renewal or replacement process. However, introducing this new rule aims to make the process easier and more convenient.
Individuals who need to travel urgently to Mainland China by air or train without a physical travel permit can utilise the online platform to generate a temporary travel permit via mobile. This temporary permit will be valid for seven days. The online permit will hold the same significance as the physical permit, and airlines and railway services will assist in verifying it to ensure that travel plans are not disrupted.
China has introduced a new measure that allows residents to connect their travel and residence permits for personal matters. This verification process can be completed online via the same platform. Additionally, the online platform can request documentation from any immigration agency.
