The second installment of a Haskell Indian Nations University fashion runway show will feature two young music artists, in celebration of Indigenous strength and resilience.

“Indigenous Couture Goes Vogue Vol. 2” will show original styles by Indigenous designers who represent diverse tribal nations, according to a news release from lead organizer Esmarie Cariaga. Cariaga, Isanti Dakota, is a Haskell student who organized the inaugural event in April 2024.

The runway show is set to begin at 4:20 p.m. Saturday, May 3 at Coffin Sports Complex on Haskell’s campus, 155 Indian Ave. Doors open at 3 p.m., and a vendor market will precede the event at 1 p.m., also at the sports complex.

Stella Standingbear, who became the first Lakota artist to win Best Female Hip-Hop Artist and Music Video of the Year at the 2023 Indigenous Hip-Hop Awards, is slated as the show’s emcee. Her award-winning debut single, “Home Runs,” is a tribute to Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, and the official music video was filmed on Oglala Lakota Nation land. As emcee, she will share a land acknowledgment and encouraging words.

Miracle Spotted Bear, Oglala Lakota, will offer a prayer song to “bring intention and reflection to the show’s start,” the release said. Spotted Bear, a Haskell alum and rising Indigenous performer, blends traditional singing with a message of healing.

“This show isn’t just a fashion event — it’s a space for us to reclaim our stories, our beauty, and our strength as Indigenous people,” Cariaga said in the release. “It means everything to have Stella and Miracle with us. Their presence reminds us that Indigenous art is resistance, healing, and a way for us to show the world that we’re still here — thriving, creating, and leading onward.”

Designers with work on the runway will include A TiPi Makers Daughter, Alynwonderland, ANPOA, APACHE/SELECTIONS, BAA, Inspired by LCR, Ista.lbx, Oh Kíyo, Oyate, S’aic’iya Design, Sunrise Creations and 20 Froggies Designs, according to the release.

Reserving tickets ahead of time is highly recommended, according to the release, and sales and donations will go toward the Haskell Foundation to support students impacted by recent federal staffing cuts.

Each costs $10 for general admission, $20 for comfort seating, or $50 for VIP seating and a swag bag. Purchase tickets through a Haskell Foundation webpage link, haskellfoundation.app.neoncrm.com. Tickets are free for Haskell students who show their student IDs.
