Hannaford’s website, app back online after cybersecurity issue
ADDRESSING THOSE CONCERNS. IF YOU NEED TO ORDER GROCERIES TO GO, HANNAFORD IS OFF THE TABLE FOR NOW. DIGITAL SERVICES WENT OFFLINE LAST WEEK DUE TO WHAT THE COMPANY IS ONLY DESCRIBING AS A CYBER SECURITY PROBLEM. IT LOOKS LIKE THIS IS NOT THE FIRST TIME THIS HAS HAPPENED WITH HANNAFORD. IN 2008, HANNAFORD EXPERIENCED A SECURITY BREACH THAT LED TO MORE THAN 4 MILLION CREDIT AND DEBIT CARDS BEING COMPROMISED. THE COMPANY DID NOT RESPOND TO SPECIFIC QUESTIONS. WE ASKED ABOUT THE CURRENT PROBLEM. INSTEAD, IT SENT US A PRESS RELEASE THAT SAYS IT IS INVESTIGATING THE ISSUE AND LAW ENFORCEMENT HAS BEEN NOTIFIED. HANNAFORD DID NOT SAY WHETHER ANY CUSTOMER DATA IS AT RISK. WE SPOKE WITH A CYBERSECURITY EXPERT WHO HAD SOME ADVICE FOR ANYONE CONCERNED. IT WOULD ALWAYS BE GOOD TO MAKE SURE THAT PEOPLE GO AHEAD AND MONITOR THEIR CREDIT REPORTS THEMSELVES. PUT A FREEZE ON THEIR CREDIT, AS WELL AS CHANGE THEIR PASSWORDS. HANNAFORD SAYS WHILE THE ISSUE PERSISTS, ALL TO GO ORDERS ARE BEING CANCELED, BUT CUSTOMERS MAY STILL SEE A PENDING TRANSACTION ON THEIR BANK ACCOUNT THAT SHOULD CLEAR WITHIN SEVERAL DAYS. MEANWHILE, IN PERSON SHOPPERS TELL US THE ISSUE IS COSTING THEM MONEY. I DIDN’T KNOW ANYTHING UNTIL I WALKED IN TO TRY TO GET ONTO THE APP TO SEE WHAT KIND OF COUPONS OR SALES THAT THEY WERE HAVING, AND I CAN’T GET IN AN ISSUE BECAUSE THAT’S USUALLY HOW YOU SAVE ALL THE MONEY AT HANNAFORD. Hannaford’s website and app were back online Sunday following a cybersecurity issue.

It had been down since earlier this month and customers could not access online order services or the app.
Shoppers who tried accessing Hannaford’s website or app got an error message that mentions technical issues and the supermarket chain’s efforts to get back online as soon as possible.

On Sunday, a message on top of the website said, “Hannaford.com and our app are online! Hannaford To Go pickup and delivery orders may be placed as slots become available. We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience and thank you for your continued understanding.”
