The Hamilton County Board of Commissioners are making plans for phase four of maintenance and facility improvements for Hamilton County Schools.
At Wednesday’s meeting, commissioners discussed a resolution that would set aside $13.5 million for improvements.
That allocation includes repairs at the Chattanooga School for Arts and Science and to bring a turf field to Central High School- a continuation of the county-wide effort to bring turf football fields to Hamilton County Schools.
Several of the commissioners showed support for the resolution, saying it’s the will of the people and it should be done.
“This is work that, to the mayor’s point, has been wanted in the community for a long time and this is a perfect example of listening to the community needs,” said Ken Smith, Hixson chairman. “These projects are very clear that they have been asked for, they have been needed, and we are listening, and a thank you to the school system for also pushing to get this work done.”
Mayor Weston Wamp says he considers the proposal to be fair and evenly distributed among the schools that are seeking renovations or improvements.
All projects in the proposal have already been approved by the county school board.
