Kay Ivey looks to ban smart phones and other wireless devices from Alabama public schools, stating too much screen time negatively affects students.“According to a recent survey 72 percent of high school teachers reported that cell phones are distracting their students, we’ve also learned from parents that teens are spending an average of almost 5 hours every day on social media and it’s having a negative impact on their wellbeing,” stated Ivey.Tech experts believe the devices make life easier for students and teachers, due to the constant advancement of technology.“It’s important for everybody. Nobody can live without phones. Cell phones, they are important because they allow people to communicate, access information and stay organized,” explained Ameed Awada, owner of Express Wireless.Educators say the phones cause drama and chaos among students. The proposal has yet to become a law. Tech experts say the majority of their customers are teenagers.
