Users of WhatsApp and Google Messages on Android phones have reason to rejoice.
As per Android Authority’s report, a recent APK teardown of the latest version of the app has revealed that users will soon be able to make WhatsApp video calls directly from Messages.
Users chatting in Messages with WhatsApp installed will see a new video icon in the top right menu. Tapping it will bring up the ‘WhatsApp video call’ option, allowing you to seamlessly start a conversation via WhatsApp.
However, this feature is currently limited to one-on-one chats. It’s not clear if the feature will be expanded to include group chats.
In the meantime, if you’re in a group chat or chatting with someone without WhatsApp, the video call option will default to Google Meet. Ideally, Messages will let users choose between WhatsApp and Meet for video calls, giving more flexibility.
Though there’s no confirmed release date, this feature is said to be actively developed and could roll out in the coming weeks.
That’s not the only news coming to WhatsApp users, as this new Pixel feature could soon fold in your WhatsApp messages.
