The Android operating system has a number of preinstalled applications that can take up space in the memory of our devices. That is why, through the Android settings, you can uninstall these default apps that often we do not even know they are there. Google Apps and many others come from factory on Android phones, although no one has asked us and probably never use them. That’s why it is important to keep the memory of our smartphones as free as possible for optimal performance!
Operating system
Android is a mobile operating system based on the Linux loop. It is the leading operating system along with Apple’s IOS. All operating systems have a number of common functional applications, which vary in design, but serve the same purpose. The notes, the litter, agenda, messages, gallery, are some of the most common ones. On the other hand, each operating system has access to its “store”, where you can access more free or paid applications. In the case of Android it is the Google Store and in Apple, the Apple Store.
In this way, our device will have applications of our choice and those that come by default on each device. But, do we really make use of so many applications? Do we know what they are all for? The answer is no. Many times these applications are hidden in secondary screens and we are not even aware that they are there.
Bloatware
The problem that we can encounter, especially in devices that have Android operating system, is that no matter how hard we try, it does not allow us to remove those applications that come by default and that we do not use at all. This is how the term “bloatware” was born. Have you ever heard of it? It means that the device’s software is bloated. So, if you can’t remove those applications, what can you do? Some of them can be removed, while others can be disabled. This will not only allow you to free up memory space on your phone, but also help you keep order.
Deleting apps on Android
As already mentioned, there are preinstalled applications of the Android operating system that can be removed. Don’t know how? Here are the simple steps:
- Go to “Settings” > Apps.
- Click “View all”.
- Select the app you want to delete permanently.
- Click “Uninstall”.
A faster way is to press and hold the icon on the main screen until different options appear. If among them you do not find the “Uninstall” option, it means that it is not a deletable application.
Disable apps
If you see that the application cannot be removed, then you will have to disable it. Although the icon is still there, the application will stop working and will not be able to consume resources. Here are the steps to follow:
- Go into “Settings”, then ‘Apps’ and then “View all”.
- Tap the three dots (⋮) and select “Show system”.
- Find the app you want to disable.
- Tap “Disable” and confirm.
ADB or Universal Android Debloater
If the option of disabling applications is not for you and you want to have more control over your device, there are other options. This is the case of tools such as Android Debut Bridge (ADB), with which you can uninstall those applications that Android does not want you to remove. Its use is more complicated, since it requires the use of a computer and knowing how to execute commands. If you think this option is too difficult there are also more accessible tools such as the “Universal Android Debloater”. With this tool you will be able to see all the apps that are installed on your device and which ones you can delete!
