The Southside bar dubs itself “the people’s pub” and is a firm favourite for locals.
The Old Smiddy in Glasgow has been crowned the most affordable and cosy pub in the UK, according to a recent ranking.

The Old Smiddy is located on Old Castle Road in Cathcart and has previously ranked well in the stats, but has picked up the top spot this year.
With an impressive TripAdvisor rating of 4.7 stars and a price rating of 4.8, the pub topped the list with a total score of 7.64.
Known for its friendly atmosphere, The Old Smiddy has garnered 16 five-star reviews mentioning the word ‘cosy.’
Compared to last year’s findings, when The Queens Arms in Edinburgh held the top spot, this year’s results mark a return to form for Glasgow.
The Old Smiddy moved up one spot from 2nd place last year, overtaking The Queens Arms, which dropped two places to 3rd.
Voted the second-best value pub in the UK last year, The Old Smiddy has built a loyal following thanks to its traditional decor, warm community atmosphere, extensive drinks selection, hearty pub food, and lively quiz nights and entertainment.
We previously reported that the pub had closed its doors earlier this year.
The Old Smiddy then reopened, stating that the closure had been due to a fire in their cellar.
Revealing the news back in May this year, they said: “Thank you to our wonderful neighbours, Stuart and Carole, for spotting this and thinking quickly.
“The fantastic teams at Castlemilk and Polmadie fire stations arrived and had the fire extinguished, and the pub saved, within half an hour. Thank you so much!
“A huge collective effort means that we will be back to serve our brilliant Cathcart community from Friday. Our fantastic team and a network of electricians, engineers, plumbers, cleaners, refrigeration specialists, and tech support have been working tirelessly to get the pub open for you as soon as we can.
“Thank you so much to everyone in the community who came down to offer help, bring us biscuits and coffee, face masks, and words of support and encouragement. We couldn’t ask for a better community to be a part of.
“Although we are back in business, we ask for a bit of patience over the weekend as essential cellar works are still ongoing. We have had to limit our draught offering slightly, but still have our great selection of cocktails, bottled beers and ciders, and spirits to enjoy.
“Thank you all again for your continued support, and we hope to see you all soon in the Heart of Cathcart; The Old Smiddy.”
The pub has now scooped the prestigious ranking among tough competition.
