Fashion show held in Owasso to support Threefold Widows Ministry in Kenya | News

OWASSO, Okla. — Threefold Widows Ministry held their first ever fashion show, “Threads of Hope”, on Saturday in support of their mission to help widows in Kenya.

The ministry was started by women from Freedom Church in Owasso following a mission trip. They started the ministry to help widows become new providers for their families.

“Back in 2013 was my first trip to Africa and after I came back from that, I started working with a widow there and it grew into this ministry,” said Trish Boone, president of Threefold Widows Ministry.

Boone described the challenges widows in Kenya face.

“The culture there is not very woman-friendly as far as what we would consider. Widows there have a great need. They don’t have a male sponsor and a lot of time they lose their property. They can even be inherited themselves by another brother or another male figure in the family. There’s a lot of things that are difficult for them, but there is just a lot of poverty. There is a lot of need just for basics. They don’t have electricity, they don’t have running water, they don’t have clean water at all,” Boone said.

Boone shared why they decided to hold a fashion show in support of the ministry.

“We thought threads, God has woven each one of us into everything he does, his plans. It’s just like me, around the world, he picked me to be a part of their lives and to make a difference because we are all a part of his big plan. We were thinking through that and thinking threads, fabric, fashion and what a fun way to come together and have fun here and make a huge difference somewhere else,” Boone said.

They have a monthly Bible study on Zoom at a church in Nairobi.

The women are given bread baskets for their families as well as other support.

The Edge Program through the ministry also helps with business training to educate the widows on the kinds of jobs and businesses that will be successful in certain areas.

Seven Owasso retailers provided clothes to be modeled in the fashion show.

FOX23 Evening Anchor Shae Rozzi modeled and emceed the event.
