Fashion meets function on the set of ‘Wicked: For Good’

Sunday Best

Fashion meets function, right here on the set of “Wicked: For Good.” On the left: Ariana Grande as Glinda, wearing a fantasy gown in silvery purples and blues, complete with a tiara so delicate it looks like it just landed on her head. On the right: Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba, in a meticulously detailed black leather coat (dare I say it’s wickedly beautiful?) with what looks like a cloud of black tulle streaming down the back. In the middle: their director, Jon M. Chu, ready to work in jeans and a white sweatshirt. Grande and Erivo’s costumes are designed by the great Paul Tazewell, who won an Oscar earlier this year for the “Wicked: Part One” costumes. I love the juxtaposition of these wildly creative garments with Chu’s basic, classic attire. “Wicked: For Good,” costumes and all, will fly into theaters Nov. 21.
