Anamika Khann opens the Lakme Fashion Week 2025
Known for her inimitable ability to merge intricate designs with bold, artistic patterns, Anamika brings a unique blend of Eastern and Western influences to her work. For decades now, Anamika has been at the forefront of reshaping couture in India, pushing boundaries and challenging the usual norms with every collection.
Redefining power dressing, Anamika’s brand-new work is about creating a sense of ease and confidence, all while maintaining a sharp, modern aesthetic.
In an exclusive interview with Times Now, the designer reflects on the moment she opened the prestigious week, stating, “Opening the show is a crucial moment—it sets the tone, creates the first impression, and leaves the audience eagerly anticipating what’s next.”
“This collection is a celebration of bold, ambitious women who own their space, lead with confidence, and inspire others with their strength and individuality,” she continues.
Much like in Anamika’s collection, the modern woman has become a central theme in the fashion industry as a whole. When asked how she sees her collection empowering women, the designer says, “by giving them the freedom to wear it their way. Silver Collar is built on contrasts, sharp lines meet fluid drapes, structure meets ease. It’s about making workwear personal, letting women decide what power dressing means to them.”
Latest trends may be the guiding force behind many collections, but for Anamika, “fashion is about self-expression rather than just following trends.” The ace designer sure does have an idea about what she thinks will redefine the new era of fashion. “The focus has shifted toward effortless, comfortable styles that reflect individuality. It’s all about wearing what makes you feel confident and embracing pieces that truly resonate with your personality,” she says.
On the other hand, much like most of us, Anamika has her own inhibitions about trends she wishes would never make a comeback. Particularly the whole ‘costume-y’ bit. When asked about a big no-no in fashion, she replies, “anything that feels like a costume—fashion should never be about fitting into a mold. It should move with you, not against you.”
Anamika’s collection encourages women to embrace their own unique strength, to stand tall, and to make each moment their own.
When asked how she wishes to inspire the next generation of designers and women in fashion, she concludes, “I want to remind them that authenticity is everything. Trends will come and go, but storytelling, craft, and identity are what make fashion special. For women, I’d say wear what makes you feel powerful, and don’t let anyone define that for you.
