Ed Miliband’s department spent £40,000 on UK flights in six months

Ed Miliband has been accused of “astounding” hypocrisy after his department racked up a bill for domestic flights worth more than £40,000 during Labour’s first six months in power.

The energy and net zero secretary oversaw higher spending on plane travel within the UK than his Conservative predecessor did during the first half of 2024.

The trips come on top of overseas travel by Miliband, who has also undertaken long-haul journeys to attend international summits aiming to tackle climate change.

New figures reveal that Miliband, who previously said Britons should reduce domestic flights “as much as we possibly can”, saw domestic air travel costs by his department reach £43,644 in the six months from July 2024.
