ORLANDO, Fla. — Wednesday, President-elect Donald Trump announced he wanted Central Florida personal injury attorney Dan Newlin to be his administration’s ambassador to Colombia.
Trump made the announcement along with other nominations on Truth Social.
In the post, Trump says that “Newlin stands as a powerful advocate for U.S. interests, and a Champion for strengthening ties, and making a difference in the World.”
Before starting his own law practice, Newlin was a deputy with the Orange County Sheriff’s Office.
Earlier this year, Newlin hosted a major fundraiser for the Trump campaign in Orlando and at the Republican National Convention Trump thanked Newlin for a $1 million donation for families of victims from a shooting at a Trump rally.
Newlin’s support for Trump also extended to wearing a “Make America Great Again” hat during a Super Bowl commercial in February and sponsoring large billboards promoting Trump’s 2024 campaign.
In a post on X, Republican Sen. Rick Scott gave praise for the pick, saying “FL is the gateway to Latin America and I know Dan will do a great job!”
