VESTAL, N.Y. (WBNG) — The Chinese e-commerce sites Temu and Shein are set to increase prices.
The prices are set to rise on April 25.
“I think everyone I know on campus, if you need something quick and cheap, we go there,” Binghamton University Student Devin Gogolski told 12 News. “We’re broke. The cheaper the better.”
The price hikes are in response to President Donald Trump’s tariffs on goods from China.
Although prices are set to go up, some students, such as Tennessee Beckwith, don’t think this will affect traffic to Shein.
“I think the tariffs are raising prices on everything, so it’s kind of proportional to if the prices on Shein and Temu are still lower, people will still shop there,” said Beckwith. “But if they rise above to more US-made brands, people will lean more towards those.”
Olivia Isaacson hopes this will get people to stop using fast fashion.
“I kind of want to stop supporting them entirely because of fast fashion, and I know how workers are mistreated,” noted Isaacson.
China is the largest clothing importer to the United States. According to Trade Policy Experts and Economists, these tariffs will most likely raise the costs of most clothing.
