A newly introduced digital 7-day temporary travel permit is now available solely for non-Chinese residents of Hong Kong, Macau, and Taiwan, granting access to Mainland China.
Starting March 20, 2025, non-Chinese residents of Hong Kong, Macau, and Taiwan will have the opportunity to apply for temporary travel permits to Mainland China online. This new initiative aims to simplify the application process by directly linking the permits with residence permits for verification. The permits are designed for short-term visits, including purposes like tourism, investment, family visits, and attending seminars. In case of lost, damaged, or forgotten permits, residents will also be able to generate a temporary electronic permit for their travel needs.
Streamlined Online Travel Permit Eases Entry to China: Essential Information
Non-Chinese residents of Hong Kong, Macau, and Taiwan are currently required to apply for a Mainland China travel permit in person. Applications must be submitted through authorized agencies, such as China Travel Service Hong Kong Limited or China Travel Service (Macau), as designated by the Exit and Entry Administration of China. In the past, individuals whose permits were lost, damaged, or misplaced had to go through a physical renewal or replacement process. However, the introduction of this new rule aims to simplify and streamline the procedure.
For those who need to travel urgently to Mainland China by air or train without a physical permit, the online platform allows them to generate a temporary permit via mobile. This digital permit, valid for seven days, holds the same validity as the physical permit. Airlines and rail services will cooperate in verifying the temporary permit to ensure that travel plans remain uninterrupted.
China has rolled out a new policy enabling residents to link their travel and residence permits for personal purposes. This verification can now be done through the same online platform. Furthermore, the platform has the capability to request documentation from any immigration authority.
