Cell phone recommendations for class rooms approved by state officials

KSDE task force recommends students ditch the phones during the school day

TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) – The Kansas Board of Education motioned Dec. 10 to approve the Blue Ribbon Task forces phone In classroom recommendations.

Ten board members voted unanimously to accept the report, motioning for it to be sent to the districts across the state. Commissioner of Education Randy Watson says the report will be sent to schools as “recommendations not mandates” before the holidays.

School districts will then have the opportunity to adopt the recommendations but KSDE says they won’t be required to.

The task force gave their findings to the board last month.

Topping the 36-member group’s list of 22 recommendations is a total “bell to bell” ban on devices, including during lunch and passing periods.

They also recommended period breaks from all screens, and policies for staff, too.
